Ladies who shred on two wheels, this is for you!

Hello female mountain bikers, my name is Amy and I am one of the owners of Pura Vida Ride in Costa Rica and I also like mountain biking. I especially love to ride bikes on the trails behind our store in Las Catalinas, Costa Rica. We have a small core group of women riders here in town and during certain seasons we have a fun women’s riding group that sets out for a ride once or twice a week.

I wanted to start to share my experience with mountain biking here in Costa Rica, just in case you would like to join me and my friends on the trails one day.

The Las Catalinas trails are unique in Costa Rica. We start riding at Pura Vida Ride which is steps from the ocean water. Then we climb into the hills right behind the shop. There is heart thumping climbing to get started, but it is worth it! We get about 2000 feet of elevation gain on my favorite trail, Loop Grande. However, it is not all at once. There are many fun areas of rolling ups and downs. The views are breathtaking and the sun is almost always shining! The 42 k of well-maintained trails feel safe, even with some Costa Rican animals running around. I notice that when I am just letting my bike go, the mountain guides me in a gentle flow of playful turns.

It is a great interval workout that not only fuels my love for mountain biking but also sets me up  for other sports that I love to do, like tennis, running and swimming.

So, if the idea of joining me and my friends on the trails intrigues you, keep reading about our experiences and insights into mountain biking in Costa Rica. The adventure awaits and I look forward to meeting you here someday!
