Mountain Bike Rentals & Tours in Guanacaste at Pura Vida Ride
We get a lot of questions about the types of mountain bikes we offer at Pura Vida Ride—especially from riders planning to explore the trails here in Las Catalinas. Whether you’re booking a rental or joining one of our guided tours, here’s a clear breakdown of our fleet and how each bike performs on our terrain.
Hardtail Mountain Bikes
Our hardtail lineup features the Trek Procaliber 6—a lightweight aluminum 29er built for efficiency and speed. Equipped with a Shimano SLX 12-speed drivetrain, RockShox 120mm fork, and a dropper post, this bike sits right between a cross-country and trail setup.
Hardtails climb extremely well and feel fast on our flowy sections thanks to the 29” wheels and 2.35” tubeless tires. They’re a great option for intermediate riders.
That said, on looser or more technical terrain, they can lose a bit of grip compared to full suspension bikes.
Full Suspension Mountain Bikes
If you’re looking for the best ride experience on our trails, our full suspension bikes are the top choice. We carry premium full carbon models from Pivot, Santa Cruz, and Ibis, available in 27.5”, 29”, and mullet setups.
These trail-focused bikes feature wider 2.4–2.5” tubeless tires and high-end components like SRAM XX1/XO or Shimano XTR / XT drivetrains. The added suspension provides more comfort, better traction, and improved control—especially on technical descents and varied terrain.
Simply put, these bikes are designed to handle everything our trails throw at you.
Electric Mountain Bikes (eMTBs)
Our eMTBs bring the same high-performance feel as our full suspension bikes—with the added benefit of pedal assist. We offer premium carbon models from Trek, powered by Bosch motors with enough range for several hours of riding.
Just like our full suspension bikes, our eMTBs are built with top-tier components, including high-end drivetrains, suspension, and bigger brakes—so you’re not sacrificing performance for power.
With 29” wheels, 2.5” tubeless tires, larger brakes, and increased suspension travel, these bikes are designed to handle our terrain while managing the extra weight of the battery.
eMTBs make our trails more accessible and enjoyable for a wider range of riders. The pedal assist is especially helpful on the punchy climbs and in the heat, allowing you to ride longer and stay in a more comfortable effort zone. They also provide extra capability through technical sections where pedal assist power makes a big difference.
